Growing Healthier In the Near West Side
Aurora Sinai Medical Center (ASMC) is the only hospital in the Near West Side and handled 57,000+ emergency room visits, 176,000+ hospital outpatient visits and over 2,500 births last year alone and during a recent tour of Aurora Sinai, NWSP staff had the opportunity to see the people and infrastructure behind these numbers.
ASMC is a full service, comprehensive regional health care destination with departments that cover Primary and Specialty Care, Bariatric Surgery and Weight Loss, Imaging/Radiology, Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, Sexual Assault Treatment and more.
ASMC has invested millions in providing a safe and comforting healing environment focusing on both small and large details. Technology is at the forefront of this environment with investment in programming like EmOpti, first of its kind technology a program that's using a computer to connect patients to doctors in a warm and friendly manner and significantly reduce wait times in the emergency department.
In addition to investing in technology, ASMC has also invested millions into the local community through the Aurora Better Together Fund. NWSP is one of many benefactors of this fund and has used these donations to support the Promoting Assets Reducing Crime (PARC) program, community outreach, sexual assault and domestic violence awareness, housing, commercial corridor development and much more.
Aurora Health Care and ASMC staff are closely involved with the efforts of NWSP. Vivian King, Vice President of Community Relations serves as a NWSP board member and numerous ASMC staff serve on NWSP working teams and committees.
The needs of the Near West Side communities are being addressed through the work of NWSP however anchor institutions like ASMC have also committed resources in their own way in support of a healthier community. In partnership with Outpost Foods, ASMC has one of the only healthier food options in the morning and afternoon in the Near West Side with the Outpost Food kiosk at the hospital.
Another serious need being addressed by ASMC is the issue of surrounding victims of rape. ASMC announced this week an expansion of services for victims of sexual assault made possible by a grant from the Department of Justice. For more information visit this link.
