Celebrating Love in the Near West Side
With Valentine’s Day fast-approaching, now is the time to start planning! Think outside the heart-shaped box and see what the Near West Side has in store for you. Here are some ideas to help you make it a Valentine’s to remember:
Go to church!
It’s not the first thing people think of when planning a Valentine’s Day date, but score yourself some points for originality. Visit any of the 14+ churches in the Near West Side to take in the beautiful architecture and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. If you plan your trip accordingly, you might even learn more about the day’s namesake!
Celebrate Pal-entines!
Take your co-workers and friends - or pals - out for a midday juice at Refuge Cafe. There is no better way to show you care, in a platonic way, than through the gift of a Will Allen
smoothie (spinach, apple, kale, and mint). Or test-run a first date in anticipation of the big day over lunch at Daddy’s Soul Food & Grille.
Take in some art and culture!
Show your Valentine how fancy you are by visiting an art exhibit in the Near West Side. Check out ZIP MKE at the Central Library, UWM’s Mobile Design Box on 27th St, or any of the exhibits at the Haggerty Museum of Art. Step back in time at the Chudnow Museum of Yesteryear or make your day a little grander by visiting the Pabst Mansion. A visit to the Tripoli Shrine Center will enchant those who think they’ve seen it all!
Share Dinner & Love Letters!
Begin your night with a manhattan in the low-lit bar at the Five O’Clock Steakhouse before enjoying a true supper club experience. Follow dinner with a show at the Brumder Mansion. Love Letters, featuring a couple sharing their lifelong correspondence, runs through February 25th.
Plan a stay-cation!
The Ambassador Hotel is making every last-minute planner’s life much easier with a fantastic - and romantic - Valentine’s special.
Enjoy dinner for two, an overnight stay in a deluxe king room or whirlpool suite, champagne on ice, chocolate-covered strawberries, and a dozen roses. Raise the bar and the champagne flute for your sweetie.
Plan a hide-away!
Maybe Valentine’s Day isn’t your thing. If that’s the case, it’s ok - the Valley Inn will know just what you need. Tuck yourself away in the heart of Piggsville and treat yourself to a cold brew and a hot pizza.
