Up and Around Vliet Street

If you haven't been down Vliet Street in a while, you should check it out; there’s some great stuff happening! Here are some of the ways that Near West Side Partners, Inc. (NWSP) are involved in transforming this part of the neighborhood.

Here are a few examples:

The Near West Side has witnessed a lot of improvements that have taken place over the summer on the busy corner of 35th and Vliet. The intersection serves as a gateway into and out of the Near West Side and intersects the Martin Drive, Cold Spring Park, Washington Park and Walnut Hill Neighborhoods.

This area also marks the beginning of the 30th Street Rail Corridor recently being targeted for a potential expansion and connection project of Bike Trails through the central and north sides of Milwaukee.

The most recent development has been undertaken by a single source, and we thank Mr. Omar Ahmad, owner of four parcels on the south side of 35th and Vliet, for putting forth a great effort in improving the look and feel of this vital corridor. He and his team of workers have done a remarkable job sprucing up landscaping, rearranging parking delineation to meet a higher safety standard, refinishing and cleaning up his parcels as well a large portion of the rail corridor.

Near West Side Partners is looking forward to continuing building our relationship and furthering the great transformation that is taking place. We’ve included some pictures below.

When it comes to promoting neighborhood development, an intrinsic element of progress is the partnership. Groups like the Vliet Street Work Group, Near West Side Landlord Compact and Near West Side Partners Safety Working Team along with input from neighborhood representatives we have come together to show the true power of partnerships. We are thrilled to be engaging with partners and assets, new and old, to work toward the revitalization and beautification of this pivotal and historic part of town.
