A Near West Side Summer

A busy Near West Side summer that included movie night, farmer market, artistic murals, Gallery Night and much more wrapped up with a back yard party at the Scotty's. Celebrating our busy summer, NWSP staff and Promoting Assets Reducing Crime (PARC) members enjoyed a beautiful fall evening looking back at great summer.

Highlights for the Near West Side include 250 people attending our 2nd movie night, a seven (7) farmers market coordinated with over a dozen vendors, the Near West Side's first Gallery Night, several mural unveilings, the grand opening of Sendiks, increased attendance at the monthly resident meetings and landlord compact, a successful Mayor's Walk and much more.

Community engagement was a focus this summer so thousands of flyers, door hangers and hours were spent reaching out to the community. In addition, NWSP was proactive using social online media.

In the area of safety NWSP used this summer to survey the community and work with the City of Milwaukee to address graffiti, trash and property violations. The PARC team focused on negative impact properties and more.

Another feature this summer was the highlighting of Near West Side homes and landscaping. At the month resident meeting homeowners were recognized for beautiful yards.

Art was a theme this summer in the Near West Side. NWSP partnered with Artist Working in Education, UW Milwaukee and Greater Milwaukee Foundation to provide art in the Near West Side. Murals, the Mobile Design Box and the Vliet Street Gallery Night brought local art to commercial corridors.

It was a busy summer but having great people supporting the work of the Near West Side allows us to do more with less. A big thank you to all of our funders, partners and supporters.
