A conversation with the American Red Cross of Wisconsin
The Near West Side of Milwaukee is home to many different businesses and organizations that want to make the neighborhood a better place. One of the longest standing organizations in the neighborhood is the American Red Cross. The Wisconsin chapter of the organization is located right in the neighborhood at 2600 W Wisconsin Ave. They have occupied the space since 1961.
Beyond disaster relief and aid, the American Red Cross has been working on a more personal level in the Near West Side. For example, on April 28th the organization worked on getting 700 smoke alarms installed in homes around the Near West Side. If you would like to receive a smoke alarm even after April 28th, you can go sign up at getasmokealarm.org
If you would like to support the American Red Cross, you can go to their website and there you will find various ways to help the organization. You can volunteer for the group or you can just donate. 91 cents of every dollar goes right back into their programs and services. To make it easier, you can also text “redcross” to 90999, and that will take $10 out of your cell phone bill.
Coming up for the American Red Cross in Wisconsin, on May 10th the group is holding their fundraiser called Braveheart. There, the group honors ordinary people who do extraordinary things.
