Power of the Partnership - Near West Side & the Common Council

The Near West Side, an intersection of 3 Aldermanic districts, is represented by three local Aldermen - Robert Bauman of the 4th, Michael Murphy of the 10th and Russell Stamper of the 15th. These three men and their support have been invaluable to the work of the Near West Side Partnership.

Each has provided guidance and leadership on a number of issues affecting the Near West Side community. They have led the conversations with the community, supported the formation of NWSP and challenged the organization to think bigger, and more strategically. Quality of life, economic development and community engagement have been the main themes for our local alderman as they push to introduce and promote legislation that supports these redevelopment initiatives. Here are just a few examples of how their leadership is impacting the community.

Alderman Robert Bauman

Alderman Bauman represents about 80 percent of the Near West Side and has been a leader in the role of economic development. His office supported the expansion of Business Improvement District #10, the Design Charette and the continuing reconstruction of 27th Street. He is also working with NWSP on the reconstruction of Wisconsin Avenue among many other projects.

Bauman understand the principles of urban development, transportation and the major changes needed to improve the Near West Side. We thank him for his leadership.

Alderman Michael Murphy

Alderman Murphy is the longest serving Common Council member in Milwaukee and has been a supporter of the Near West Side. I appreciate his leadership and extensive knowledge of the issues affecting our City. He coordinated NWSP efforts in community engagement in and around the Valley (Piggsville area), worked to resolve issues with the expansion of the Business Improvement District #10 and worked tirelessly to remove a needle exchange facility that plagued the Western portion of the Near West Side for over a decade.

Alderman Russell Stamper

Alderman Stamper is a cheerleader for the Near West Side. He is always willing to pick up the phone to discuss issues and willing to meet with businesses and neighborhoods. He regularly recruits businesses to the Vliet Street corridor and connects NWSP to activities in and around his district. Alderman Stamper is always only a phone call away and we are glad to have his continuing support.
