Why Attend the Landlord Compact
What is the landlord compact?
Starting in the early 90’s landlords in the near west side have come together monthly to discuss issues, problems and trends. The meetings not only include property owners, landlords and management companies but also the Milwaukee Police Department, Community Prosecution Unit, and many other stakeholders who are involved in the improvement. Kent Cory, co-chair of the Near West Side Landlord Compact talks about the role of the compact in the video below.
Why attend?
As a landlord the way you operate your investment has a big affect on the neighborhood. You should attend the Near West Side Landlord Compact (NWSLLC) because it provides a forum for the Landlords, police, community organizations, stakeholders and district attorneys office to discuss issues and find ways to resolve them.
You should attend because all the parties, while they may have differences, want safer and nicer neighborhoods and the NWSLLC addresses critical concerns that play a big role in the overall view of the neighborhood. The NWSLLC provides a framework for progress, it allows all parties involved to speak their piece and have their issues be heard.
Features include:
-Identifying problem properties
-Presentations by community leaders
-Addressing negative impact properties and sites
-Addressing evictions
-Community and safety updates
-DNS reports
-Police, CPU, DA updates
-Positive affects and chenges
-Future planning
The NWSLLC is like a neighborhood association for property owners. With bigger properties and greater numebr of people living in these buildings, the scope of the issues tends to be increased as well. So it is very important that these issues be addressed, by all parties that can effect a change. That is what the NWSLLC is all about.
